The other day, I had a call from a lovely woman who was looking for a couple of specific tinctures: damiana and slippery elm. Now, slippery elm often gets the spotlight when someone has a sore throat, thanks to its soothing properties for irritated tissues. But damiana is an herb with a much broader range of applications beyond the typical cold and allergy season. Things like supporting weight management, easing anxiety, and even helping with headaches and migraines. I was curious about her request for these two specific herbs so I asked her, “What are you hoping these herbs will help you with?”
She was a little shy about it initially, which is completely understandable. But what she eventually shared is something incredibly common. Life happens, doesn’t it? She was dealing with stress, health challenges… her body had been through a lot and that had taken a toll on her sexual health and libido. Many of us have been there or will be. I know i have. It’s a natural part of being human.
So, her request for damiana, known for its aphrodisiac properties, suddenly made perfect sense. The slippery elm is sometimes used to help with, you know, those irritated tissues. This is where an herbalist can help – looking beyond the surface and considering the bigger picture.
While damiana was a good starting point, I felt there was a more comprehensive and supportive herbal blend that could better address her needs. And in this particular case, I suggested a daily tea rather than a tincture. Consistency is often key when it comes to restoring balance, and a warm cup of tea can be a lovely daily ritual. The intentional act of brewing and enjoying a cup of tea as an act of self care and self love opens you up to receiving love from others.
Here’s what I recommended:
- Damiana: She was on the right track! This is a well-known traditional aphrodisiac that can help ignite passion. Horny Goat Root was another option, but not the best one in this case.
- Milky Oats: These are incredibly gentle and nourishing for the nervous system, helping to ease emotional stress, which can often be a barrier to intimacy.
- Shatavari: Revered as the “Queen of Herbs” in Ayurveda, shatavari is fantastic for hormonal balance, particularly beneficial for women’s health.
- Eleuthero: This powerful adaptogen helps the body manage stress, which, as we discussed, can significantly impact libido and overall well-being.
- Fennel & Ginger: These warming spices help to gently awaken the senses and add a bit of zest to the blend.
- Rose Petals & Vanilla Bean: A little touch of luxury! These additions make the tea more enjoyable and create a sensory experience.
She had the option to get the herbs herself and create her own daily tea blend. Just remember that finding the right proportions is important for optimal effectiveness. Or, if she could opt for the convenience of a perfectly balanced blend from me. (I have this blend in my store, but if you feel you need a personalized blend I can custom make one for you after an herbal consult – email me at cara@flowerpotholistic.com)
Whether you choose to DIY or let us do the blending for you, the important thing is consistency. Make this tea a part of your daily routine and allow these herbs to support your journey towards renewed vitality and vibrant sexual health.
